The new phone system wasn't as complicated to setup as Brenda thought it was going to be thanks to the online instructions and user interface on the computer. Using it, however, wasn't quite as easy.

Kiki had briefed Brenda on the phone conversation she'd overheard, which meant the Wongs needed more time upstairs to prepare Billy Ryder's room. She'd bought them a little extra time by talking Ryder into having breakfast—an easy sell since she'd had a heaping plate fresh from the kitchen to wave under his nose while she was trying to persuade him. But he was a fast eater so she knew they'd better move quickly. She also wanted to make sure any calls he made from his room would be recorded—she needed to find out what the hell was going on…preferably before she had to tell Ellis about him.
