Scene 21

Frequencies…

After a hot shower, Billy dressed and then sat down to go over the USGS map of the area. He'd picked it up in town last night when he stopped to gas up the bike. It was a good thing he did, since he probably wouldn't be able to use his GPS when he went to scout out a meeting place. He'd pass on the location to his contact later tonight when he picked up the stuff. His contact should already be in touch with the courier.

After memorizing a couple of possible sites, he neatly folded the map and put it back in his briefcase—careful to lay it with the same side up as when he opened the case.

Before he started checking the room for video monitoring, he activated the frequency jamming device he'd hidden inside his radio. It would temporarily interrupt any analog or digital video signals in the immediate area and buy him a few minutes so he could sweep the room for bugs.

He used a simple electronic pulse monitor to look for magnetic fields—the characteristic electrical 'noise' that would be emitted by a computerized mini-cam or video recorder. The monitor led him straight to the TV—he was disappointed. Although using the TV would mask a video surveillance camera by using the same wiring system as the cable service, it was also the most obvious place to put one.
