Scene 38

Compliments abound…

Back at the Lodge, as Flora and Janna made their way toward the lobby, two of Hans' men entered the bar. Ellis' men had been joined by additional patrols just ahead of their arrival and they formed a less-than-welcoming reception line along the bar.

Rudi ignored Ellis' men—Hans had warned him not to start anything—they had more important things to do; however, Rudi had not bothered to pass on Hans' warning to Eugene. And Eugene was spoiling for a fight. He'd come to the right place. He made a point to make eye contact with each member of the reception committee. A lot of bad blood festered between Eugene and several of Ellis' men—but Kain and Rusty in particular had a penchant for provoking him.

Hans signaled for Rudi to join him. He'd wanted to make their presence known but hadn't counted on Ellis countering him with reinforcements so quickly. He didn't want a confrontation here. He'd pass on his instructions to Rudi and send them on their way before Eugene made a costly mistake.
