Drinks...Bianca called a few minutes after Brenda left. She said she'd be right in—that was over an hour ago. Luckily, happy hour was off to a slow start. By the time Brenda came back from the airfield with Roxanne and Jolene, only a couple of regulars, Jon and Chung, had shown up.
K.D. was out cold on the sofa—Ellis's magic elixir had done the trick. A few sips and she could barely keep her eyes open. A few more and she went limp as a noodle and slid off the booster seat. Luckily, Mike snagged her by her pajama bottoms before she hit the floor.
It was a close call and no one wanted to think about it—or what Brenda was going to do when she found out about it or the special syrup Ellis had put in K.D.'s milkshake. So, when Brenda entered the bar, the four of them pretended they were so intent on watching the TV that they hadn't heard anyone come in—unfortunately the screen was paused where Ellis had left it when he'd put K.D. down for her nap. The Little Mermaid's frozen hands gestured outward from the TV, pointing at Ellis like an indictment.
